My understanding is that it will be a data warehouse and the infatructure is moving forward. Google will be a huge boost to the entire mid-columbia. I have heard estimates of 150-300 new jobs. BPA has a fiber ring that loops thru the entire Northwest and with transmission capacity for power, inexpensive land, favorable taxes and recreation galore The Dalles makes an excellent choice. Most think of The Dalles as a dusty town formerly ruled by the Rashniesh(sp?) but get real, if The Dalles were as close to Seattle as it is Portland it would have been over run long ago by the yuppie crowd. The Dalles is really a diamond in the rough and when Google puts their mark down it will be a really great place to be.

I hope it happens. The dalles needs the econ boost and I need a job out in the Gorge. Plus, Oregon hasn't had a tech win like this in a while.

"...it's contingent on conditions in the agreement being met -- such as tax incentives and power supply. ... a conference call between Google execs and Bonneville Power Administration chief Stephen Wright ... greatly facilitated negotiations..."

If Google is that concerned about adequate power, they're undoubtedly planning a data center.
