Author Favorites: Lunchified Yum-Yums!

Hey there, readers!

We’re introducing something here that we’ve seen on other Metroblogs that is actually pretty cool I think: Author Faves! (If you want to know our favorite something, post it in the comments and we’ll do our best to get some answers for you.) We’re kicking it off in grand style with favorite places to eat lunch. And since I’m the one that asked the question, I’ll give you my answer first.

Banana Lee Fishbones:
I simply adore Sushi Cafe K, 2015 NE Broadway (next to Jiffy Lube). Fabulous miso soup and I’ve never had anything less than wonderful service there. Fairly convenient from lots of locations too. (Also available for dinner!)

Betsy was hard to hear over the grumbling of her stomach but said:

Swagat. Love love love the chicken makhani, which brings up a second favorite choice - if I can’t sneak away to Swagat or just don’t want an entire buffet, then Gandhi’s on 2nd between Yamhill and Taylor is where I’ll go for chicken makhani with a side of spinach. Go before noon if you’re in a hurry, otherwise the line snakes all the way back past the other boarded up stands in the Global Food Market…!

Thien-Kim was on the way to lunch and kept it brief:

The Daily Cafe specializes in fresh, seasonal, and simple meals.
Wasabi+tuna+sandwich-format=brilliant.
Yum.

Benkay actually started to drool while he told me:
I like 3 Lions CafÈ. It’s got sandwiches that they’re willing to bake.
And the Hungarian Mushroom Soup is to die for. Three Lions is a full-service bakery - they bake their own bread, and cut their own meat. There isn’t really a good time to go, because when it’s open, it’s open and the staff is willing to make you a sammich and some soup. When they’re closed, it’s not so easy.

Russ, with his mouth full, said:

When the weather is nice, I’ve been known to buy a sandwich at Elephant’s Deli, and take a platic bottle of Crystal Springs over to Washington Park for an impromptu picnic. You might see me under a tree on that small hill just past the Park Place entrance. I stay there up until the “deewd, you’re on deadline, you’ve got to get back to your home office” guilt overwhelms me.

When the weather is not so nice, I’ll sometimes opt for the Cafe in Nordie’s downtown. Not only do they make a great tuna sandwich, the view of Pioneer Square is that of an urban life carnival.

But today, I’m eating at my desk. I see not the Pioneer Square chess-players nor other Washington Park picnickers, but consonants and vowels looking back at me from beneath my monitor glass. And Josie, the Office Cat, over my right shoulder.
