Truth in advertising?
I live near Lloyd Center, so am near the mall often, whether heading over to the light rail station south of Holladay Park, taking mass transit, or (on rare occasions) actually setting forth in the mall itself to shop. But I’d never noticed this sculpture stationed near the Stanford’s at the 9th and Multnomah mall entrance.
Yes, it’s a stack of coins. And yep, they all have “inspirational” proverbs chiseled into the marble promoting commerce and/or pursuing the Great American Pastime - shopping.
Which got me to thinking: what sculptures best represent the buildings they sit in front of? And which buildings need new sculptures or pieces of art outside to better alert the public about what might lurk within?
(Nope, I’m not willing to establish a city-funded ’study’ or ’survey’, nor am I willing to create another totem faux-pas by commissioning artwork with public dollars…I’m just curious, is all…)
