TMI, guys

I’m cringing at one line from a longer package in The O about the varying viewpoints Oregonians have about our continuing presence in Iraq - but it’s not for the reason you might be thinking.

Instead, it’s this, culled from an interview with Lulu Romero:

With three children in the military, Lulu Romero says she had mixed feelings when President Bush announced the United States would invade Iraq.

“I thought it was a little too aggressive, without thinking about the consequences,” says the mother of nine children, four adopted (emphasis mine).

Why mention the fact that four of her children are adopted? It’s certainly isn’t relevant, it’s potentially insulting - and it’s one extra detail that just wasn’t necessary, in my opinion.

What? The Oregonian wrote something that was irrelevant, potentially insulting, and unnecessary? Say it ain’t so!

I can’t tell you how things like that always irk me too.

It’s even worse when it happens in real life though.

    Four adopted? who cares?
