Mass transit tidbits
Did you know…
…that transfers are now only good for an hour, on average (as opposed to the 1 1/2 to 2 hours you used to get on weekdays)? And yes, it’s a deliberate change.
…that rates are going up yet again September 1st, thanks to high fuel prices? Expect to pay more for your tickets - and don’t expect to get that price break you used to get on 10- and 20-packs, either.
Have you noticed…
…that MAX has been packed lately - especially heading to/from downtown on weekend nights (in my experience, anyway)? The crowds are pretty diverse as well, from my perspective.
…that they’re finally starting to swap in new poetry to replace what’s been there for ages? (I love the concept/execution, but they need to rotate it more frequently.)

I take max every day and have noticed all of that. The new poetry has already been there for about three months though.
What drives me crazy is that they cancel trains without telling you. I can look on the web and see a train is coming at 11:38pm. I walk to the station and wait. The sign at the station counts down, 5 mins, 4 mins…. at 0 it disappears and no train comes. The sign just updates to show the next train at 12:00am. As this happened to me last night it occurred to me maybe I am supposed to walk through a special wall or something ala Hogworts. What really pissed me off though is by that point I could have just walked across the freaking bridge. Grrr…. This happens frequently.
Have you noticed they have changed the loading zone parking times downtown from 6:00pm to 7:00pm to reflect the new parking meter times? Grrr.
I hate that disappearing train syndrome as well - it’s infuriating.
They may have swapped poems on MAX, but a lot of the buses I’ve been riding lately haven’t been updated.
