Sushi and such.

Well!

First off, way to go Betsy for poking a stick in a hornet’s nest! (:

Second, we were discussing sushi eventually, and I would like to have more of that discussion.

Where do you go for sushi? What kind do you like? What places do a disservice to the word sushi?

Let me know. I’m always on the prowl for a good roll of rice. My current enjoyments are Sushi Cafe K and Yuki, both in NE near Lloyd Center. Let’s hear it!

    BEST:
Yoko’s, 28th and Gladstone, the Taka’s Tuna is fabulous.

    WORST (and overrated):
Saburo’s, Bybee and Milwuakee, gargantuan rolls of not-so-fresh fish. Always makes my stomach churn no matter how many chances I give them.

    Taka’s Tuna, you say? hmm.

I’ve never been to Saburo’s but I’ve considered it so I’m really glad you spoke up. Thanks for the tip!

I also really like the Takahashi way out on Holgate (I think it’s Holgate, anyway) and even though it’s not directly sushi, their tempura options are also de-lish.

I’m not much of a sushi lover, but the people I trust on the issue say Murata and Syun. Have you been to either?

    Koji on Macadam.

MSG: I haven’t been to either place. Can you tell me more about them?

Benkay: I’ve been to the Lloyd Koji but not been impressed with the sushi, even though I really like their other stuff. Is it a location thing?

I haven’t been to either either. I went to Syun once but they weren’t open. It’s in Hillsboro. Murata is by Carafe in downtown. All I know is that the people I trust say they’re the best.

I’m kinda grooving on Sushiville down on NW 23rd & Pettygrove. There’s something so satisfying about the conveyor belt (haters step off!). Plus, we always get a table without a problem.

I’ve been to Murata, and it is all that. But it’s small & not always easy to get in and out quickly for a weekday lunch, for example.

That Saburos is overrated and not any good is completely bunk (IMHO).

I have and always will go out of my way to take folks from out of town there, and each and every time (EVERYTIME!!) they cannot comment enough on how “that was the greatest sushi I’ve ever had.”

Koji is no bueno for sushi. My stance on Koji (ANY KOJI) is don’t get the sushi, stick with everything else. B-Lee, it is not just one location, from my experience it is Koji as a whole.

And b/c you no likey “blogger” I am at:

It really is a location thing. I’ve been going to Koji way out Macadam for a looong time now (multiple years) and while they no longer play sumo wrestling on the tube, it’s still excellent food all the time.
