Thai Monsoon = Drunken Noodle goodness

I love that my neighborhood has a little bit of everything. And when I’m in the mood for some kick butt Thai noodles and happen to have load of laundry, I can kill two birds with one stone at Thai Monsoon 4326 N. Mississippi. It wasn’t all that long ago when it was the home of RD & EK’s Soup & Soap. From what I understand, it was a local greasy spoon breakfast mainstay for a number of years. And as long as I’ve lived in North Portland, the place seemed to thrive on the combo of diner/self-serve laundromat. Hey, I’m from a po-dunk town, and the idea of combining a sit down meal while you wait for your undies to dry is pretty damn novel!

Well, it just so happens that the new incarnation of the laudro-mat/diner on the corner of N. Skidmore and N. Mississippi is absolutely to die for. I think I’ve tried virtually everything on the menu and have so far not been disappointed. And I even have my own washer & dryer at home!

I did find this funny video of Monsoon Thai that you can see here, but trust me, the food is to die for, inexpensive, the service is friendly and quick, and there’s a huge selection of stir fry dishes, noodles, fried rice, and tons of specials. Today I tried the 3-Spice Salmon and I’m actually salivating at the memory. Bon apetite!

My sister works at Mississippi Studios, and when I was in town last year I went there with her for a show. We sent her boyfriend out for food and he came back with those noodles.

    Oh. My. God.

They were the best thing ever. I haven’t found anything in Philly that comes even close.

My wife and I go there about once a month just for the drunking/drunken noodles… good stuff.

Are these the same owners as the place on Alberta?
