Unscene 2 - check it out
i remember back in the dot com days being proud to know the Portland was one of the fist CitySearch cities. in the early days of the internet, that was a cool accomplishment. it didn’t hurt that some of the founders were based in puddletown, but i didn’t know that then, so i thougth it was cool
now, i happened upon unscene, urban navigator, a pamphlet i found at Ivy Studios. i picked it up because it listed my hood in the list of “scenes” - mississippi. when i opened it, i was overwhelmed with joy at how cool it was.
unscene is a fold out that on one side lists a map of the city with the hip areas highlighted - nob hill, the pearl (john hausman voice,) downtown, hawthorne, burnside, mississippi and alberta. the map is then surrounded by listings for shopping, fun, restaurants, healing arts, and the like. on the opposite side, there are more detailed listings for places you should visit like Gravy, Navarre, Local.35, Naked City, Tara Healing, Holocene, Pistils Nursery and so on and so on.
Unscene is pretty cool and the website points out that Portland is one of eight cities in the USA that are highlighted. I feel honored as a Portlander.
