KATU Trumps KGW on Snow Forecast
On both their early evening and late evening newscasts, KATU and KGW issued quite divergent weather forecasts.
KGW’s Matt Zaffino was saying that Portlanders should expect three to five inches of snow, that a similar system to two years ago was already causing havoc down in Methford, (sorry, Medford) it was headed our way, and here are the freaked out shoppers at the supermarket and Les Schwab.
Meanwhile Rod Hill of KATU was quite a bit more tentative, saying that snow could fall, but it could well be too warm for it to stick and whatever falls ought to be gone by mid-afternoon.
I was pulling for Rod Hill to be right. Two years ago, when the last snowstorm hit, I was snowed in for a week, didn’t buy enough food in advance, felt like a hostage in my own place. Oh, and did I mention I had bronchitis?
Well, here it is 7 a.m. and no snow except in higher elevations around the West Hills. But since I no longer live there but now am in a rodent-named, flatlander city where you are more likely to see “Support Our Troops” ribbons than “Think Globally-Act Locally” bumper stickers- I am not as high up as I used to be.
Mahn.

i was watching Fox at 10 and they did an interesting thing – took snippets from Katu, KGW, KOIN, the Oregonian and the National Weather Service and showed them all on the broadcast, doing a side by side comparison. in the end, they gave their thoughts too.
This just in from KGW:
“Snow Advisory is cancelled for the greater Portland area. The National Weather Service in Portland has cancelled the Snow Advisory. No significant snow accumulations are expected.”
Heh.
