Why drive to the airport?

The last few times I’ve needed to fly out of PDX, I’ve taken MAX. And unless there’s a compelling reason (an overabundance of luggage, perhaps), I can’t see myself doing anything else but take MAX to the airport in the future.

I’m dropped right at the door, and take the escalator up to my counter (it was Alaska today.) Total time start to finish: 40 minutes from my house to the gate. Compare this to driving out there, then circling around the short term parking garage - or, worse, parking in long term parking and then shuttling into the terminal? Uh, no thanks - I’ll stick with MAX.

And - so you know: that security change you’ve been reading about? The one that will now allow you to bring sharp implements aboard? It isn’t in effect until the 21st - so leave those knives at home still, will you?

In order to take MAX, I’d have to either get a ride to the nearest stop (not within reasonable walking distance, especially with a couple of small bags or one big enough to need checking), or take a bus to the nearest stop (not appealing with the same luggage).
