Build it and they will come?

so, if you open a bar, is that a guarantee that people will come drink? if you build condos, is that a hedge against people buying them? well, that’s my train of thought here. i have been hearing rumblings about a proposed development on n. mississippi by the thai restaurant/laundromat and today it was confirmed by the trib. obviously the developer and his partners think that building a 30 unit building with retail space has a place on mississippi. i don’t think people spend millions without having some sort of belief that they will succeed. build it and they will come. they being the young crowd or empty nesters who want to hang in the hood.
so, is this gentrification again? are the neighborhood doomsayers going to make a big deal out of it saying it’s just another nail in the coffin for a traditional neighborhood? i hope not. i think that argument has left the table. i think this will be a great addition to the street and offer some more retail space for such items as a small grocery store, maybe a wine shop, maybe even a bookstore. those types of businesses that a neighborhood (whether hip or not) needs.

just don’t rent to subway please. please.

please.
