Portland is COOL – BMW Isetta

Isetta

the one time i was downtown in a car and driving home, i swore i had seen an Isetta in front of me. now i am sure of it!

The Isetta is actually a BMW and yes, it’s tiny. One actually opens the entire front in order to get in the single seat. my memory of the Isetta is seeing one in Berlin – an East Berliner had used it to smuggle himself and another out over the border after the Wall had gone up.
Parked in a Portland parking lot, i’m excited to see it. obviously someone feels safe with such a small car amongst the crazies of portland’s drivers. good luck.

Every time I see a car smaller than a Honda CRX, my immediate response is “I want one!” And my girlfriend’s immediate retort is “No way.”

Wicked. We need more three wheeled vehicles on our streets!

After getting T-boned in my Dodge Neon a few years ago, small cars give me the willys. But it’s very cute.

There are actually three-wheeled versions of the Isetta. (and actually several different Isetta manufacturers under license.)

WELL I DROVE MY ISETTA TO NEW JERSEY IN 1993 AND WAS ONLY AND FIRST DOCUMENTED TO DO SO. WAS A FUN 13 DAY TRIP JUST DRIVING ABOUT 3OO MILES OR LESS A DAY IN EVERY KIND OF WEATHER. SNOW WAS ACTUALLY FOLLOWING US ACROSS THE USA AS I DROVE THERE. I DRIVE MY CAR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AND DID SO WHILE I LIVED IN PORTLAND. LAST SUMMER I TOOK IT TO MANJANITA AND WAS IN THE FORTH OF JULY PARADE. I HAVE TO TELL YOU , THAT WAS THE BEST PARADE I HAVE BEEN PART OF IN 30 YEARS OF PARADING WITH MY KIDS AND THIS CAR. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT TO YOU IF YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO THAT WEKEND. BILL DARLAND
