Street Policing

I’d personally like to see more police walking the streets downtown, and along the bar-strips.
Why?
Because I think an active and visible police presence (as opposed to cops in cars) would reduce lots of crime, and actually might clean up Burnside. On which, I’d like to note, I’ve been offered crack three times in the past week.

I have no proof to back these claims up. I just think that it would be a good idea to have more cops just walking around in pairs.

i don’t want to be a naysayer or critic, as i too would like to see more officers out of the cars wandering about downtown. not the rent-a-cops that are old and chubby yet carry guns (scary.) the challenge i see is – what good will it do when they don’t arrest for minor crimes anyway? maybe just having the presence on the streets is enough.

I propose something to further improve my city, and because you come from the hard, hard streets of who the fuck cares where, it’s not a good idea?

Crack on Burnside is charming, like the Super Fund Site sewer we call the Willamette (so photographed by tourists during sure-to-induce-cancer dragon boat races) and the sweet gayness rolling in slow waves from the Gregory Building.

However, I hear you. 23rd and Gleason seems to be teaming with fuzz, and the most dangerous thing I’ve seen there was Britney Spears, but that’s a whole other story. It doesn’t matter what city you’re in, the Police never seem to want to hang out in the rough spots any more than I do.

But don’t kid yourself, the worst parts of Portland are a walk in the park compared to the bad part of town in even most rural cities. Portland is super clean.

Lance, I’m a Chi-town transplant. No telling me, I know. But still. It’d be nice to see some cops just walking.

    Also, it’s Glisan.

Point taken, I’m saying we could spare virtually all of the cops hanging on 23rd and put them closer to the bridge where the bad stuff is.

And you are right, guess I was thinking of Jackie!
