Buy A State Legislature - Only 100k!

I thought we’d passed some sort of regulations to put limits on payday lenders. You know ‘em. Some have dancing gators (Powell + 39th), and some are just plain-old predatory, charging more than 500% - a year.
Democratic Oregon legislators backed a bill to limit predatory business practices like these (and hey, let’s not even mention auxiliary problems with minimum wage and how these businesses are the worst thing to happen to the single mom with 2 jobs and 3 kids) but state Republicans blocked the legislation–entirely on party lines.
Why? Well, BlueOregonmy bad, folksOHD points to a really good explanation. Turns out that the Republicans took in about $100,000 from various interested parties.

You know, it’s shit like this that really shakes my faith in the entire legislative process. It’s one thing for this kind of behavior to go on at the Federal level, and I can accept that for the most part, Federal government structures are corrupt through and through, but at the state level? This is so obviously corruption that it’s not even funny! The entire party voted against the best interests of their constituents, and also took in 100k in campaign donations. I see a clear distinction here between “voting with your money” and bribery.

I’m going to state my opinion of the Oregon Republican Party right here: You take bribes and vote against the interests of your constituents.
