Newsflash! Paul Allen to donate millions to AIDS sufferers…
…just as soon as he sells the Trail Blazers, that is. At least that’s what I took away from this interview with The O’s Jason Quick in today’s paper:
Trying to operate in a small market, without a public-financed facility . . . you know, when you are losing the equivalent of a small office building a year, or saving thousands of people who have AIDS, every year you are losing that money, every year, that’s just something at some point you don’t find acceptable anymore.”
What do you mean that’s nothing more than some fancy talk? Are you suggesting that Allen’s doing a sleight of hand designed to garner sympathy for the reputed huge losses he’s reeling from as the team’s current owner? And that it also ought to be “unacceptable” to pull in AIDS victims as props for a rich man’s PR shell game here?
Okay, then. Points taken. Never mind…
