That’s one of Oregonian photog Rob Finch’s photos of the Oregon State Hospital.

The series just won a Pulitzer yesterday for editorial writing.

A bold series, the type of which the Oregonian-as a newspaper owned by a private company not answerable to parsimonious institutional investors - has repeatedly shown it has the werewithal and the vision to do.

As for the hospital itself, the place is subhuman and barbaric, and totally beneath human dignity.

Not to mention the infrastructure, which is in sore need of repair.

I’d guess that’s water on the floor, but I cannot summon the faith to be certain that’s what it is.

when the stories first started surfacing about the hospital, i was shocked by the shelves of cremated patients that had never been claimed. it was one of those images that will stay with me for awhile. i wonder when the mcmenamin’s will buy the place and refurbish it.
