Public Service Announcement: It’s Fleet Week
That’s right Portlandians, it’s that time of year when a bunch of ships come into Portland, screw up traffic for a few days, dock at the waterfront, and don’t get toured very much because someone might blow them up.
If you drive across the river, expect delays on the Broadway, Steel, Burnside, and Morrison bridges.
And in the commentary section, who else finds it odd that the Rose Festival showcases the military, with Portland being such an anti-military city?

You and I may hate the military, but the vaginas of Gresham and Beaverton just luvvvvv it!!!!
Was that crass? Whatevs.
What an ignorant statement.
While the urbane tree huggers may hate the military, and while they’re at it, most all authority figures, the majority of Oregonians probably don’t.
Just like the “I don’t like the Rose Festival” attitude, the “I hate the military” is more indicative of small minds than anything else.
I’m going to take some fact and add a dash of stereotype here:
Those hardcore pro-bush people who are headed downtown to see the fleet are probably going to mix it up with the gay boys down there salivating like Christmas came early. (And if his name is PFC Christmas, he just might!)
Good thing riot gear is generally black, it DOES go with everything…
