Eureka!

Fresh from the O: The Blazers are officially for sale!

So now we finally have the first substantial step in what could be a very exciting summer.

Although it doesn’t appear that any actual details have been released, a statement has come out saying that Vulcan and Portland Arena Management have agreed that selling the team and the arena to the same entity is the way to go, so this opens the door to Terry Porter and friends, and also to Mark Waddles, who also wants to throw his hat into the NBA arena (pun kinda intended).

Though it is likely that any actual deal will take time to actually gel, and will then take more time to be approved by the league, the city, and everyone else involved, it is clear that things have been set in motion to have the team sold by the new year.

I find it interesting that Terry Porter’s group was contacted by the parties involved. Query: does this mean that the owners have agreed, in principle, on who the buyer should be? Does it indicate that the agreement was reached with the help of some input from the Porter group as to how the team and arena should be valued and what the terms of the deal will likely end up being?

And, given that it definitely appears that the Porter group has the inside track, how much input do you think they’ll have in the upcoming draft? I would guess that if an agreement-in-principle has been reached, and some sort of memorandum of understanding has been generated to detail the expected deal that will simply be pending approval, Porter and his guys should have a great deal of input as to the direction the team takes, not only in the draft, but in the trade scenarios that will be popping up in the next couple of weeks.

Should be interesting to watch…

    YAY!

I hope Terry Porter et al. will get to do it. I can’t think of a better way for the Blazers to build up good mojo with those who have forsaken them. I’d buy tickets to those games. I hope Terry is still hip enough to the NBA scene to get us some good leadership from the front office down.

And if you need some help desk, Terry, call me. (:
