Happy hour at Basil Bar
I had a few kid-free minutes to grab dinner before heading to a meeting - so I dropped by the Basil Bar (on the first floor of Sweet Basil restaurant on NE Broadway) for a quick bite and a beer first.
I was surprised to find I had the joint to myself with 15 minutes left in happy hour - but the bartender informed me the atypical lack of customers inside probably had something to do with the nice weather outside. If I’d had time to linger, I’d have sprung for something from the elaborate cocktail menu - the Thai Me Down (thai iced tea, Maker’s Mark with a splash of cream) sounded really appealing - but I settled for a Tsingtao, some salad rolls, and the calamari salad instead.
Forty minutes later, I paid my under-ten-dollar tab (not including tip, of course) & was on my way. But I’ll definitely be back - if not for the drinks, then for the free WI-Fi, the big screen television, or the thai buffalo wings I had my eye on…
