Poised to own a team?
Random open sports thread for the weekend…
While we look around at possibilities for a Blazers buyer, while we consider Portland’s lack of major league soccer and baseball, and while we consider all of the other sports avenues Portland isn’t travelling on, I have one question:
Where’s Phil Knight when we need him?
According to the factually dubious Wikipedia, Phil’s net worth is in excess of $7 billion, making him easily one of the riches men in the world. Although there used to be pretty clear conflicts of interest when he was President and CEO of Nike, he’s now simply the Chairman of the Board, which would seem to allow him to explore some legal work-arounds to get into sports ownership, if he so desired.
How better to showcase his product?
What do you think? Is Phil ever going to get into the sporting biz?

I read an interview with him awhile back where the topic of owning a team came up and he stated no because he and his wife planned on using their vast fortune for charity. Just recently, I think he sold some Nike stock for around 2 bill and it went to a foundation or something. That’s just what I remember.
I’m kinda excited about the terry porter coalition.
Why would being Pres. & CEO of Nike be a conflict of interest? Oh, because NBA is all about sports and not about marketing shoes? Uhm, right. So the Blazers would have to wear Nikes. They probably have a contract with a shoe company already anyway, they’d just get a new one. Who cares?
