Road Trip To San Francisco
Thinking abou the road trip this past week to San Francisco and back, a bit bummed we did not take 101, though we were in a rush both ways so how much would we have enjoyed it anyway?
Is it really just an extra hour to take 101?
Well, we did get to lie on the ground in an apricot orchard at 1 a.m., looking up at the stars somewhere in the Sacramento Valley.

An extra hour? Where’d you get that BS. My experience is that it makes the trip about twice as long — at least. There’s no denying it’s gorgeous, when you can see past the SUV, behind the fifth wheel, behind the motor home….
Portland to SanFran via 101 is going to probably add many… 8+ hours to your trip.
I should note that the extra hour would be if you drove I-5 to Grants Pass, over 199 to Crescent City and south on 101 to San Francisco.
Still, it seems like it would add more than an hour.
