Urban Grind

A couple of years ago I discovered a great coffee shop in NE Portland called Urban Grind. Where I go for coffee in the morning is kinda like a pitching rotation for me. I have a wide variety of needs when it comes to coffee consumption so I like to keep it fresh and interesting by having a few options every day. The Urban Grind is by far the largest and most open atmosphere of any coffee shop I’ve been to in Portland. Their coffee and staff are pretty cool too (no snobby Stumptown barista’s here).

Urban Grind is located on 22nd and Oregon just a few blocks north of Sandy. Go check it out sometime if you want a nice relaxing environment to go with your coffee. They also have free wireless internet courtesy of the folks at personal telco.

I love Urban Grind! But they close at 4pm! It was fine when I worked at home, but now I never get a chance to go there anymore…

When I want to treat myself to some good coffee, served with care, I walk up to Coffee Plant (http://coffeeplant.net/), at 724 SW Washington, downtown. Coffee Plant serves Stumptown Roasters coffee, but I haven’t run into any snobby baristas.

Did you know that it’s also a church? http://uvchurch.com/

Urban Church - aka Urban Grind - and something called “Metro Vineyard” merged to make the Urban Vineyard church…

I’m suspect about a church that has a coffee shop as its public face (and isn’t very up front about the church endeavor)… I’d like a latte, hold the Jesus and the speaking in tongues, please.

Yeah, I did know that they have a church too. I don’t know why anyone would care about that. If they were cramming that down your throat every time you came in you wouldn’t like that either. I think just letting people find out about it however they do is just fine. I would have never known if a friend hadn’t told me.

Coffee plant may have excellent coffee, but they cannot make a good iced tea to save their lives.
