Live from Neko Case

Live from Neko Case

I have to say, coming into this, I wasn’t sure about Neko, but now….baby, she’s amazing. The Crystal is a bit warm and dieselboi is sweating in his diesels, but this is one amazing woman. I think I’ll give her a second listen on the ipod. Anyone who adds a banjo and standup bass into the mix is fine by me.

Yay Neko Case!

I was at the show tonight and wish I could have actually HEARD Ms. Case sing. My wife and I were up in the front of the balcony and the cacophony from all around us was maddening! In addition to the chattering fools through out the Crystal, the sound system wasn’t up to par either. Either the performers need to chastise the audience for their poor behavior or the management should make an announcement about maintaining a quiet environment.

Why do people pay $20 for a concert ticket and then insist on talking!?!? Shut up and enjoy the show. I don’t think people can remain quiet anymore in our cell phone infused society.

you know, i noticed that too. we were up in the balcony and the sound just didn’t make it that far. i believe that has more to do with the architecture than with the sound system. we moved down below and stood on the benches. i too was surprised with the amount of chatting going on. $20 to come and chat with a friend? wow. we usually don’t spend any more than $10 on shows at Dante’s, Berbatis and the Doug Fir and never run into chatting issues. it’s too bad. i did enjoy the music though, even though I couldn’t hear or understand the words to get the full story.

i was going to blog about that too– one dude we were standing next too talked throughout the show, every song… but then bought a t-shirt and cheered really loudly at the end of the set!

I really don’t understand my fellow humans sometimes. I just don’t get them. The way I see it, if we all just followed a few simple rules in public then everything would be great. For example, shut up when you’re in a movie theater. Turn off your cell phone and just WATCH the movie. No comments. Just watch and lose yourself in the film.

Second, going to a concert, SHUT UP and enjoy the music. Don’t blab to your friends about meaningless bulls**t the entire show. Don’t sing along with the lead singer. Don’t start clapping with the beat. That gets old really fast. Don’t turn back to your friend and blurt out, “I really love this song” about every frigging song!

Ah, I feel much better now. I wish Neko would have put the verbal smack down on the crowd just like Jeff Tweedy did at the Crystal a few months ago. Same situation as the Neko show and Mr. Tweedy told everyone to shut up and enjoy the music.

Get a clue my fellow Portlanders!

You know, I seem to only have those kinds of experiences at the Crystal Ballroom – muddy acoustics for the group itself, coupled with rude fellow concert people.

I think they’re related – maybe if they got the acoustics right, people wouldn’t be able to hear their neighbors & would just shut up and listen to the music…

    Betsy,

I’m with you on the Crystal. However, this was the loudest the crowd has ever been. I would think really about attending another show there in the very near future. I would say crowds at The Aladdin are the best.
