I wouldn’t say this is indicative of the Mississippi St. Fair, but couldn’t ignore the photo. The fair was just AWESOME! Wow, I’ve been to the street fair going on 4 years I think and it has grown so much, I actually felt a little crowded. Beginning up on N. Skidmore, there were booths and people and music and food for 5 long blocks. Many of the normal vendors you see at many Portland events were there, including the soap people, the art, the furniture and the kitch. I love going to these events because I stock up on soap from the Oregon Soap Company. We got this huge long bar of soap for $10. It will probably last us the rest of the year unless I get especially dirty some weeknd.
According to my count, there were three venues for live music. The most surprising one was Mississippi Station. Not surprising in that they had live music. The Mississippi Station is new, but associated with Mississippi Studios, an intimate place to see live shows. Between Mississippi Station and the bike shop, there has been an empty space hidden behind leafletted plywood. Overnight, the plywood became wrought iron fencing and the empty space became an outdoor patio with a stage a the back. I can only assume this is permanent since they put the effort into the fencing. It’s pretty cool.
Some new shops had grand opening sales. Mississippi is getting a lot of clothing retailers. Hmmm.
Well, back to the photo. Around noon, there was a parade and lo and behold, let by these scantily clad women. It was so funny to see the reactions to some of the people on the street. Yay Portland for keeping people guessing.
More photos, including shots of the infamous RIBS.
