This Shit Is Getting Out of Hand
I’m finally fed up with the OLCC. Before you out me for being underage, this has nothing to do with drinking and everything to do with Form of Government. Don’t be that guy who reads one sentence and then makes an idiotic comment, read.
Tonight, I went to my favorite place for BBQ in this city, Tennessee Red’s. But they wouldn’t let me play pool, or my brother play pinball because it’s gambling.
Hang on a sec. No it’s not. That shit’s ludicrous and you know it. This is the same bullshit that the Old Boy’s Network pulls time and time again. They don’t want blacks opening clubs downtown (right in line with some of our readers), their directors drive drunk, and OH THAT’S RIGHT, THEY HAVE A MONOPOLY ON LIQUOR IN THE STATE OF OREGON.
WTF, people? When did Puritanism take control?

Perhaps I’m missing something here… are the pool tables and pinball machines in the bar area of the restaurant? Or are they in the restaurant section, where anyone can be, but you were not allowed to play?
Precisely. Pre-goddamn-cisely.
I’m still confused. Were the pool tables and pinball machines in the bar area? Or the general public eating area?
Sorry, I’m still furious. In the restaurant area.
t. reds is more of a bar than a restaurant.. the bar rolls around the whole thing with a pool table and pinball machines less than 10 feet away… there is no “separation” or “dining room”. i am actually surprised to hear that minors are allowed in there at all.
rules are rules dawg :) it makes me happy that kids can’t play pool at bars.
I am glad kids can’t play pool at bars too, but that doesn’t change the fact that whether or not they play pool at Tennessee Red’s (are they still any good? Red left awhile ago and I haven’t been back) or in my stepdad’s basement it isn’t gambling. Same goes for pinball. Still not gambling. Since they aren’t getting drink money out of Benkay they shoulda been happy to get his quarters. (:
I too am displeased by the OLCC. I didn’t used to be. Then I went to SoCal and experienced The Joy That Is Beverages N More.
I could have purchased, on average, between 25 and 50 % more alcohol per dollar than I could here. (For those who slept through high school economics, Oregon is a monopoly, and California has competition.) I’m telling you this place is like the Fred Meyer of alcohol. I found something in particular I liked, and when I asked about it here I was told the “OLCC has chosen not to carry that brand.” Which is interesting because the same brand but a different spirit was available on the shelf. And unlike Freddy’s the OLCC doesn’t have product request forms (that I can find).
I don’t understand why our LCC is so far-reaching. Can other states hold their liquor better?
