Smoke Free? Yeah Right.

I just saw a new poster while riding on Tri-Met it said:

Let’s Clear the Air
MAX stations and bus shelters are now smoke free.

Yeah, right. Obviously they haven’t been waiting for the bus or MAX at Lombard and Interstate.

Anyone remember the little non-smoking campaign jingle? “Oh yes, I mind very much if you smoke.” The jingle should be updated. “Oh yes, I mind very much if you give me cancer and shave years off my life you selfish bastard.”

Well, maybe you can come up with a better jingle?

I’ve never smoked inside or even next to bus shelters. So. :P

Then you’re definitely in the minority, b!x.

I’m not a smoker and not inclined to give rude smokers much courtesy in return, but mainly I’m upset at Tri-Met for enacting an unenforceable rule. So stoopid.

When I rode the MAX every day, it was common to see folks that were sucking on their ciggies right up to the doorway of the train. They would toss their butts on the platform as they stepped into the car, only to light up a fresh one as they exited the train. I often wondered how they survived a day in a non-smoking office.

what i hate is the person smoking whilst waiting for MAX, taking that last toke and then throwing the but, jumping between the closing doors and then letting out the smoke – inside the train. that’s always soooooo pleasant.

and…it’s not really about enforcing rules is it? it’s about courtesy. it’s about your fellow man. i always wonder what smokers think when around non smokers in places that are essentially non smoking – i.e. max stations. in bars, it’s fair game, everyone is a victim somehow.

A public place out of doors can’t be “essentially non-smoking”.
