Soon to be Harder to Make that Fake
The Oregon DMV has signed a four-year contract extension with Beaverton-based Digimarc to change the state’s driver licensing process. New driver’s licenses will contain special security features to combat driver’s license fraud. One of the most noticeable things for the public will be that instead of walking out of a DMV office with your new license, you’ll recieve the new license in the mail a couple weeks after you renew.
It’s probably a step forward, but how much of a problem is driver’s license fraud? I could be dead wrong, but aren’t most “fake IDs” for the purpose of underage drinking? Reading through the article, I wonder, how many people show up at the DMV and get multiple licenses with their photo on it (the new system contains facial-recognition technology)? I’m sure there’s a few… but will the new system slow them down?
