Electric wheels..
So there is this lady in my neighborhood that consistently rides her electric scooter in the middle of the roads.. Usually I spot her on neighborhood back roads cruising along at a pretty high speed. But occasionally I see her riding in the bike lane on busy streets like Glisan and Burnside. It always surprises me every time I see her. I guess I would just like to know how she thinks. I mean I wouldn’t be that trusting of all the Portland drivers if I was in an electric scooter in the middle of rush hour. Then again I wonder if she just thinks that no one would dare run over an old lady in a scooter…
Does anyone know what the rules of the road concerning electric scooters?
Portland Online says: “Motorized scooters are allowed on certain city streets if they meet certain specifications. If they have a GAS motor power source they can be no more than 35 cc’s. If they have an ELECTRIC motor power source they can be no more than 1000 watts. Operator must be 16 years or older to operate on public property. Scooters can only operate on roadways with a speed of 25 MPH or in a designated bike lane on a roadway over 25 MPH.”
