Superking Buffet on 82nd
A) yes, 82nd
B) yes, that is a kick ass huge sign
C) what is it with the work “KING” and Chinese food
We ventured out to 82nd for lunch on Sunday per a recommendation. Wow, after seeing this sign and, well, being 82nd, I was skeptical, but the buffet did me right. They had 9 different buffet stations with everything from traditional dishes to mongolian grill to sushi to pizza for the kids. The options were amazing, so I decided to try a bunch of different items - crawfish, japanese chicken, chicken and asparagus, spare rib, coconut shrimp (yum yum), sweet and sour shrimp, A-1 beef, crab legs, and so on. Most everything you would expect at a Chinese restaurant, you would find here and hot and fresh, along with a great salad bar and desert bar. I tried a bunch of items and no, they weren’t the best I have ever had, but….they were fine for what I thought would be a $6.99 lunch. Yeh, this buffet is only $6.99. I decided I would end with a plate from the mongolian grill - which by the way ended up being the best dish of the day. It was only then that we discovered that $6.99 lunch is only Monday-Friday. On Sunday, it’s $11.99. I almost spit out my noodles. Sorry, this level of food is worth $6.99, maybe $7.99 for quantity, but not $11.99. I was disappointed, but it was too late, so I went back for another plate. Hey, I’m gonna eat my way outa here if I have to.
In the end, the buffet is quality, yet I would only go back for the $6.99 price. Check it out if you’re out off 82nd between Foster and Holgate. Also, bonus points if you’ve been there and know the building’s history.

I cringe at the thought of a $6.99 buffet. AND, ever since my childhood days of heading out to Organ Grinder Pizza, listening to that humongous pipe organ, and watching silent films…why…I just can’t go back into the building knowing darn well it’s gonna ruin those precious memories.
I was glad to see something finally occupy that building. After the Onyx nightclub moved out, it was a creepy eyesore for quite a while, so kudos to Superking Buffet for fixing the place up.
Personally, I thought the sign kicked a lot more ass in the Organ Grinder days, when it had the monkey hanging on the side. Though it looks better than it did when Onyx was there, but that’s not saying a lot…
It is nice to see something in the old place again.
If anyone out there has some pictures when the
Organ Grinder Pizza was up and running, I would love
to see them added to this site.
