Dave’s Killer Bread
As we were eating dinner last night, my wife told me to make sure to eat some of the “convict bread” she bought at the store that day for breakfast. I was all like, “What the hell is convict bread?”, and she told me that a friend of hers had recommended this organic bread to her that was made by a former convict.
Well, it turns out that the bread is actually called Dave’s Killer Bread, and it’s made here in Portland by, indeed, an ex-con. Dave’s got quite a story of rehabilitation, which you can read on his site, along with some songs and pics and other good stuff (well, I won’t attest to the “goodness” of his music necessarily, but I will say that the bread is pretty damn awesome.) There are quite a few varieties, and they’re available at a number of local foodmarts in town. And they all have “Killer” as part of their name and are organic, which just adds to the awesome.
Dave’s story has been touched on in a number of local media areas (click on the “killer news” tab on his site for more info), but it was news to me. Check it out and eat some bread– or as it says on the label, stay away from bread on drugs!
