R.I.P. Bojack dot org
Our friendly neighborhood curmudgeon Jack Bogdanski has recently been (airquotes) hacked. You can still find him at his standard address, but it’s been remodeled a bit.
As a person who has lost information due to lack of backup, I cannot tell you enough how important it is to back that stuff up. Truly! I hope that at least one person out there takes this as a cautionary tale and starts backing up or copying down or whatever it is you need to do so you don’t end up in Jack’s shoes. If you have any of his stuff archived (we’re talking FOUR YEARS here, people) you might want to drop him a note, as I think he’s hoping to reassemble as much as he can. Wouldn’t you?
Ugh. If I read any more posts about the ups’n’downs of bojack’s blog I’m going to keel over.
Hacked is unlikely. Drive died on them and they weren’t doing daily backups is much more likely. I didn’t see anything in their online literature saying they did daily backups, but if they had, um, isn’t bojack a lawyer? And what reputable web hosting company isn’t mirroring drives whether with RAID or something else?
Lelo, I agree whole heartedly. I’m so tired of bojack being put on a pedestal by Portland’s blogosphere. And to top it of, nothing positive ever shows up on his site. Like I always say, if all you have to say about Portland is negative, why continue to live here. Sad state of affairs.
“Like I always say, if all you have to say about Portland is negative, why continue to live here.”
Do we really need a local version of “America, love it or leave it”? Ugh.
I mean, Jack frequently grates on my nerves too, but come on now.
Whether you like him or not is irrelevant. He’s one of the most popular bloggers in our area. The fact his site has been wiped out is a noteworthy piece of information.
P.S. I didn’t say I didn’t like him. But the on-again off-again news of the bojack blog (this has happened several times in the past few weeks) is tiring. IMHO.
I love Portland. I dislike the clowns who are mostly running the local government. There’s a big difference.
It’s kind of like America at the moment. Great country, weak (and in some respects corrupt) leadership.
