KOIN.com: Now With Less Suckage

I see that the folks at KOIN have redesigned their website. Someone had to tip me off to this, since I pretty much never visited their old site. KOIN always seemed to be too little too late when it came to mainstream Portland news.

Am I the only one who doesn’t pay any attention to KOIN? What news websites do you frequent? From my observations, it appears KGW is often the quickest to post broken breaking news, but they frequently get their facts severely wrong. KATU seems a bit slower, but more likely to be correct. Agree? Disagree? Discuss.

The general consensus at OMI is that it’s better than what they had, and that ain’t sayin’ much. No RSS feed–I tsk’ed at them for that. Personally I doubt the station’s current owners want to invest much more into the website (or anything else) than the bare minimum they need to “flip” the station, my guess is within two years. You know, I should start a pool at OMI on when Montecito flips KOIN…

KGW probably has the best online presence of the Portland stations; it even has some reporters blogging. Steph Stricklen’s is fairly entertaining, especially if you like exclamation marks!!! She’s actually very good about giving additional information on the stories she covers, I just like to tease her about her (genuine–it’s just how she is) perkiness.
