The High Cost of Coffee Creating Outlaws

On KPTV’s “Final Cut” during the 10 o’clock news tonight, they did a short piece (from the Fox 12 Mobile Newsroom no less) on how local Starbuck’s baristas are getting fed up by certain customers who order a less expensive coffee drink, then doctor it up with “excessive condiment use” in order to make a “poor man’s latte”. It reminds me of the old trick of ordering ice water with lemon, squeezing the hell out of the lemon wedge and using all the sugar packets on the table to make free “lemonade”. Not to cast aspersions on anyone, but I believe that they could very well be talking about one of our very own metbloggers … except that we know that she only patronizes independent coffee shops.

    Ah, what passes for news.

The simple and obvious answer for all of us is: find a good indie coffee shop that suits you, and patronize it. They want your biz, even if you use 2 Splenda packets in your house coffee. Chances are, it’ll be better anyway.

Are you talking about MEEEEE? I do have to confess that I have been known to patronize a Starbucks from time to time if I absolutely have to…

“Excessive condiment use”? Add that to my list of obvious sins - except that one of the reasons I don’t order lattes to begin with is ’cause they have Too Much Milk and not enough coffee.

Then the Starbucks shouldn’t provide excessive condiments, now, should they? (Seriously, nutmeg? What the hell?)
