You may well be familiar with China Forbes, the sultry lead singer of Portland-based Pink Martini.

I don’t know what led me there, but I decided to check out her Wikipedia entry. That entry links to an article about China Forbes that ran in the British newspaper the Guardian. To hold the surprise, I’ve placed the link right after the break.

Two things I didn’t know about China Forbes.

She’s a graduate of Harvard.

But here’s another nugget for you.

As the Guardian article notes, China Forbes is John Kerry’s distant cousin.

That’d be 2004 Democratic Party presidential candidate John Forbes Kerry.

Sen. Kerry’s maternal lineage is through a Forbes line, as is China’s paternal heritage. How far back, we don’t know. And just in case you were wondering, there’s no known connection with the Forbes family of publishing fame.

But I suppose outside of the curiosity factor, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is the music, right?
