Doernbecher Freestyles to be unveiled on Saturday

I’d love to tell you to come to Wieden and Kennedy on Saturday to take part in the unveiling of Nike and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital’s 2006-2007 Doernbecher Freestyle line of shoes. Unfortunately, that party is already SOLD OUT. So you won’t be able to get a sneak peek at this year’s set of five shoes designed by Doernbecher patients. The Freestyle line will be sold nationally to raise money for Doernbecher. Those who are lucky enough to get in on the fun will get to take part in an auction of select shoes that have been autographed by a “celebrity athlete”.

This year’s shoes were designed by:

Tess Beach, 12, a 7th grader at Cal Young Middle School in Eugene, who was treated at Doernbecher for a Wilms tumor;

Kenny Clegg, 12, a 7th grader at Ogden Middle School in Oregon City, who had neurosurgery at Doernbecher to relieve seizures;

Lance Dillon, 17, a LaPine High School senior, who came to Doernbecher with acute lymphoblastic leukemia;

Bryant King, 15, a sophomore at Marist High School in Eugene, who has been through two kidney transplants as a result of caudal regression syndrome; and

Phoebe Mattera, 16, a junior at the Arts & Communications Magnet Academy in Portland, who has cystic fibrosis.

The Doernbecher Freestyle line will be available for a limited time at select U.S. Niketown stores (and the downtown Nordstroms), beginning in November. You will also be able to purchase them online at www.nike.com.

You can find more details on the unveiling here.
