Oregon’s Flight for Freedom 2006
This coming weekend, October 6-9, Oregonians will celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the Flight for Freedom. You may remember back in 2001, after 9/11, NYC was hurting for tourists and dollars, along with the pain of what happened not three weeks prior. Sho Dozono, owner of Azumano Travel, had a wonderful idea for Oregonians to show their support for New York by traveling there, spending money and showing NYC we care.. What started out as a small group of supporters soon mushroomed into 1000+ Oregonians flying east to New York.
This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Flight of Freedom and Oregonians again are stepping up and making the trip. It’s a wonderful idea. New York and the nation are still healing from 9/11 no matter what is happening on the political landscape. I understand this trip will include some dignitaries and one of the highlights will be the Special Memorial Service commemorating the 5-year anniversary of 9-1-1 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Sunday.
My parents will be going this year with some friends, so if they come back with some great stories, I’ll share. YAY Oregon!
