Family Friendly Freddies

Family Friendly

Hopefully this blog doesn’t turn into Groceryblogging Portland but I noticed something at Fred Meyer tonight: a checkout line labeled as “Family Friendly”. My wife tells me it’s been around for a few months, and I discovered that family friendly means that the line doesn’t have any tabloid magazines.

As we cruised through with our almost-2 year old, I pondered that it could be even more family friendly if they didn’t have all sorts of candy within the childrens’ reach. I suppose a lack of tabloids is a start, but they’d gain even more happy PR if they got rid of the colorful impulse buys that the children love to grab.

I think when I’m on my own, I’ll avoid this line… how else am I going to know what’s going on with Britney or the headlines in the weekly Midnight Star?

We went through this line with our two year old and noticed that it seemed to have more candy (I guess in place of the magazines). I thought it was a nice idea, but I would rather have a line where I don’t have to deal with my kid reaching for candy and screaming about it than him learning what’s up with k-fed.

So at the other end of the checkouts do we get an “adult friendly” line where…well…we’ll leave that up to your imaginations…tee hee…
