Help Needed to Build Afghan-Iraqi War Memorial

The Oregon Department of Veteran’s Affairs is constructing a memorial near their Salem office to remember Oregonians who have lost their lives in the wars against terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq. The goal is to have the memorial completed by Veteran’s Day (November 11) and they are looking for volunteers to help them out.

They’re looking for help with both skilled and unskilled work such as pouring concrete, bricklaying, and landscape work.

It’s a bit south of PDX but if folks are looking to ensure that our fallen veterans will be remembered and you have some time to spare, this would be a great way to help out. To volunteer, contact Bill McMichael, project manager, at 971-563-8549 or MJ Kesterson, at 503-930-9097.

    They’re conflating Afghanistan and Iraq?

It’s better than overlooking Afghanistan losses, as is often done in media stories about Oregon’s soldiers overseas, which focus almost exclusively on Iraqi-based soldiers in the National Guard.
