Tweedledee and Tweedledum
To the two cyclists who were riding side-by-side up Barbur Blvd in the bike lane at 5:30 this evening: KNOCK IT OFF.
I’ve ridden up Barbur lots of times during rush hour. The traffic is both heavy and fast-moving. The bike lane is wide enough to be reasonably comfortable for a single rider, but there is no room for cyclists to safely ride two abreast.
Do you somehow not realize a) how dangerous it is to put yourself into a position where you could get clipped by a right-side mirror? b) How much you piss off passing motorists when you ride like that? And most importantly, c) how those pissed-off motorists are going to vent their frustration at every other biker they see on the road? Like, ME?
If you want to head out to the countryside and ride side-by-side through wine country on those long stretches of deserted road, knock yourself out. But please, ride single-file in commuter traffic.
