And All The Joey Fans Said…
So, all you Oregon fans looking for a good story, turn off the TV, stay away from the radio, and instead let me tell you about Joey.
Joey, or Portland’s Central Catholic High School, was the heart and soul of the last great Oregon Ducks team. Joey, little Joey, managed to get picked #3 overall in the 2002 NFL draft. Despite being the heart and soul of the Ducks, and not Ohio State or Miami or Florida State or USC or any number of other awesome programs.
Joey went to Detroit, where a culture of losing and sucking and looking for a place to point the finger instead of a place to build a new culture threatened to destroy him. As he said on a recent radio interiew, there was a long time there where football was no longer any fun.
Then, in an unlikely twist of fate, he was traded to Miami for a likely-to-be 5th round draft pick to be the backup to Daunte Culpepper. Joey Harrington was, officially, an NFL bust.
Then Daunte got hurt, and now Joey’s won four straight games for the Dolphins, including yesterdays 27-10 trouncing of his former Lions club, where he made “upgrade” Jon Kitna look like crap while showing fans that the fingers pointed at him were, in fact, better pointed at Matt Millen.
After the game, in a telling moment, Joey classily chatted up the coach that decided to ship him out. Overheard by some nearby: “Hey, Joey, can you take me with you?”

Join me, oh Joey fans, in saying congratulating the man on a well-deserved vindication.
And, by the way, on a small aside, did you read the latest line in the O today? They only have OSU beating the Ducks by 3? As a devoted Ducks fan, it pains me to say this, but if the Ducks lose by any less than 10, it’ll be a moral victory in my book…
