Shooting in North Portland – updated

I hate, HATE, being woken up with police lights flashing in my bedroom. It has happened enough in my neighborhood that I immediately know something is up. This morning @ around 4:30am was one of those times. And again, yes again, it is a result of the 4plex across the street. Imagine looking out, thinking it may be a simple traffic stop and seeing one car blocking your street to the north, one car to the south and 2 cars, one block away preventing any access down the cross street (N. Skidmore/Maryland). And inbetween is the Portland Police RV. You know it is something big when the RV is here.
I walked out and spoke with an officer who stated there had indeed been a shooting in one of the apartments around 1am. I asked if there were injuries and he stated no. I plan on talking with the Portland Police North Precinct to confirm that. I can’t imagine there are this many police without injuries.
I say this isn’t new because about 4 years ago, we were awoken by concussion grenades 3 times @ 5:00am over the course of 2 weeks as a result of SERT teams going into this 4plex. One can’t get back to sleep when there are Police snipers on your neighbor’s porch and a tank rolling down the street. Oh how I love my neighborhood.

Updated 5:25am:
From KATU (via email. Thank you.):

NEW THIS MORNING… A POLICE STANDOFF IN NORTH PORTLAND ENDED AFTER AN OFFICER FIRED A SHOT

SHORTLY AFTER MIDNIGHT… A MAN THREATENED A WOMAN WITH WHAT APPEARED TO BE A GUN… ON NORTH MISSISSIPPI AND SKIDMORE.
SHE CALLED 9-1-1… AND POLICE CLEARED THE SUSPECT’S APARTMENT COMPLEX.
HE SAW POLICE, CAME OUT WITH HIS WEAPON, AND ONE OFFICER FIRED A SHOT AT THE MAN.
THAT SHOT DID NOT HIT ANYONE.
THE MAN RETREATED INSIDE AND LATER SURRENDERED PEACEFULLY.
DETECTIVES ARE NOW SEARCHING HIS APARTMENT TO FIND THE WEAPON, AND SEE WHETHER IT’S A REAL GUN.

you could make a difference and influence change on your street. It takes time, persistance and a lot of work but it can be done. actually in the case of renters and landlords , chronic problems are much easier to eradicate. you should contact your neighborhood association for help on how to go about accomplishing change, if you really want… but, I must say, I think you might like the drama…

oh, and you’d have to give up some partying…

Yourneighbor – Do you know me? If you do, you would know we have worked with our neighbors, the City, The Portland Police Department, our neighborhood officer, everyone we could to close this location down 4 years ago. The city assistant DA was going to take the property, but the landlord and manager cleaned it up. And yes, it has been quiet, but last night showed it is not necessarily a finished project. This may have been a freak occurrence, that is why I only posted what I saw, not any opinion about what occurred.

Your holier than thou attitude has pissed me of as if you feel I am not a contributing member of my hood. What am I to do if there is actually nothing going on until last night? Drama? Who in their right mind enjoys the police showing up in the night ready to break down your neighbor’s door? Who enjoys having your side street famous for a police shooting (Kendra James.) So piss off “yourneighbor” for making generalizations about me and my lifestyle. Piss off!

Not to play pile on, but Yourneighbor: Where do you live? Are you currently trying to “make a difference and influence change on your street”? Do you think maybe living where he lives and contributing to his block by maintaining his home is a waste of time? Do you know that he has no contact with his neighborhood association? What if he is the president of his NA? How do you know he parties? And supposing he does “party” how do you know it isn’t downtown or at my house in SE which is nowhere near his ‘hood?

And for the record, I don’t think anybody likes snipers on the roof in real life (in the movies sometimes it’s cool, but in real life, not so much).

Maybe you should go make some broad mistaken assumptions someplace else. If you’re going to keep commenting here you might see what other posts Dieselboi has in the archives-if you want proof he is a contributing member of society his posting history speaks for itself.
