Pause for a moment
Yesterday was a beautiful, albeit cold, winter day. It started out foggy, yet by afternoon, the sun was shining. We decided to venture out for a walk to lunch in the hood. A new place has opened up – Pause – on N. Interstate in the location where WAX use to be. (WAX was an all ages dj club that never got off the ground.) I have read a few reviews of Pause out there on the interweb and knew I would love it. AltPortland dubbed it as comfort food. (hitup the link for an actual food review) I agree with that, yet my first thought when I see “comfort” food is to bill it as unhealthy and greasy and simple. The menu is more extensive than that and I love that. I had a Cuban sandwich which had pulled pork and ham with pickles. It was perfect for such a day. My partner in crime had roasted cauliflower soup and a yummy salad with crimini mushrooms and chopped celery root. YUMM! We were both extremely satisfied with our vacation lunch. They also have a full bar, about 10+ taps with micros, wine and happy hour.
What I loved most about the space was how they kept it simple. They aren’t going for a scene or a theme. It may evolve with the neighborhood or the clientele over the next few years (I hope.) I love that it is so close, has a great menu, has a good beer selection. Has enough room so one doesn’t feel cramped. I love that someone took one of the empty buildings on N. Interstate and turned it into something the neighborhood can embrace and enjoy. Welcome to the hood Pause.
