Weather on the Way: Snow and then “Abundant” Sunshine
I was just checking the upcoming weather over on Yahoo, as I am wont to do around this time before leaving the office for the evening and saw that Wednesday again brings the possibility of snow to the region. Followed on Friday by “abundant” sunshine.
And seeing how it’s January in Portland and the sun is not likely to often show its face during these long and grey winter months, I wondered briefly to myself if “abundant” was really the right word to use in this case, as its secondary meaning is that of “providing a more than plentiful supply of something”. Yes, I am that big a literal-minded nerd.
But as a person who lives with someone who is vastly affected by the whims of the weather, I can definitely say that there is never enough sun in the winter months around here. It would take weeks of nonstop sun action to quench the thirst for daylight before it could be considered “abundant”, I think.
