Where Should I Go For Lunch?
I am starting a new job this week - and after being exiled to the suburbs for the past several years - I am working downtown! The office is over by Keller Auditorium but usually when I’m down there it’s in the evening, when many of the daytime cafes, lunch counters and carts are closed up, so I’m only familiar with the nicer restaurants that do dinner service. Dieselboi’s recent post about Blueplate has given me one option, but I need a slew of places to check out for both my lunchtime options as well as running out for a coffee or bagel or such in the morning or for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.
Please oh wise Metblog readers…..tell me where should I go first?

Hello!
I love this blog! I’ve been mapping my favorite places to eat and play around Portland. It’s mostly for use by my out of town friends when they visit. Please mention my site! I love getting hits.
Also, has any heard about the new “Thatch” tiki bar? I can’t wait to check it out.

You’re kind of on the bad side of downtown for carts and the best options, but Murata and Carafe both offer lunch and are both very good. Hot Pot City also has lunch and would be cheaper.
The bento place on 1st avenue is pretty good and inside so not as cold. If you venture north, the options open up for you, especially the carts. Oh, there is a McMenamins (if you like their food) up of 10th and Market by PSU.
If you work near Keller you work near me. There’s a few things around here, so let’s go have lunch sometime! (:
I am loathe to tell you about one of my favorite lunch spots, for fear it will become even MORE crowded, but you should check out Steamers Asian Bistro:

It’s at 504 SW Madison, and offers a variety of steamed filled dumplings, bao, edemame, and noodles. So… very… good.
Is the NoHo cart still in the little park across from Keller auditorium? If so, it’s worth a visit. Ditto for the Fuego burrito cart across the street from the black box.
Also within a 4-5 block radius (or used to be, anyway - can you tell I used to work here as well?) - Paradise Bakery on 2nd or 3rd. Chinese take out (via window) at August Moon or at Mandarin Cove. A salad bar in the Cookie Cabana on Market between 1st and 2nd.
Excellent - this is a great list so far - keep ‘em coming!
And Betsy - the idea of a salad bar in a place called the Cookie Cabana - that cracks me up! But it sounds like my kind of place :-)
NoHo is no longer in the park by Keller. They moved to Chapman Square by the courthouse for the past year, but I haven’t seen them in a few weeks. May be winter break in Hawaii for them.
just think - when summer comes, you’re that much closer to the festivities at the waterfront. Beerfestival anyone?
Cookie Cabana… if that is the food by the pound place, then prepare for a food coma.
