Misty Portland TV Mem’ries of the way we were
Have you lived here your whole life? (Who am I kidding, dieselboi is half the natives I know!) Did you live here as a kid? Or like me did you live someplace else but only got Portland television? Well you should check out this site chock full of ads, video clips, and general other nostalgic items for your perusal. It is full of OMG moments. OMG Farrells! OMG Great Space Coaster! OMG Chuck E Cheese when it was still a PIzza Time Theater! OMG Great Space Coaster!
This is super fantastic. It’s so much fun to go back through time….
Where’s Peterson? They only seem to be missing one of the biggest icons of Portland Advertsing; Thom Peterson. Where else are we to get are buzz cuts?
What of Ramblin’ Rod? No early Portland childhood would be complete without watching Ramblin’ Rod before heading off to School. Ah…the innocent times.
I found a page with some good Ramblin Rod stuff on it. History as well as some actual video:
http://platypuscomix.cartoonsdammit.com/fpo/history/ramblinrod.html
Dig it! It’s the same site as the video page I listed above. Whoever’s behind this is making me all kinds of happy right now.
Sadly I can’t find any other video except one on Amazon for a hundred bucks.
There is one Tom Peterson commercial in the set, you may have missed it — a “Free Gift” of classes when you buy a Microwave Oven. My grandmother’s (still working) microwave is at the end of the commercial!
I’d hope the person putting that page together is able to find and post the classic “Wake up! Hey, Wake up! Who? Who?” Tom Peterson commercials of old.
Also, for a double-dose of “inside Portland”, you can sometimes find Tom Peterson commercials, or the man himself, appearing in Gus Van Sant films.

Second time this week something I’ve found on this site has inspired a post of my own…
Soon as I read the words “Ramblin’ Rod” in these comments, I suddenly remembered my own appearance on the show.

I used to race home from school to catch Bugs Bunny and Friends.
Ramblin’ Rod? Of course!
But does anybody remember “Bumpity?”
A frosty cold one to anybody who can stroll down that dark alley, just off memory lane.
