Happy 156th Birthday Portland

Wow, did you know today was Portland’s birthday? I didn’t. I’m surprised we didn’t have a huge cake in Pioneer Courthouse Square. 156 years ago, a couple of guys, William Overton and Asa Lovejoy were canoing down the Willamette when they saw a great piece of land and decided to stop and lay claim. That claim, for 25c, eventually became Portland. I’m so glad to be a Portlander, I can’t describe it. I’m glad all you transplants have chosen to move to my city. Happy Birthday Portland!

Hey, hat’s off to you Dieselboi for noting this uncelebrated reason for celebration. I love Portland. I visit many places in my work and many of them are lovely. But I always count my blessings when I fly back home to Portland, see the rivers, the city and the landscape before landing. I am so glad to live here and be a part of this wonderful city and community of friends.
