Coffee Break Today at 10: Why Not Hit Your Local Indie Coffee Shop

As Betsy posted yesterday, this morning between 10 and 12, if you’re willing to brave the cold and a probable long line, Starbucks will be giving away coffee.

Now, I don’t have anything specifically against Starbucks besides the fact that I don’t really like their coffee that much (unless I’m in a foreign place, in which case, just like the McDonald’s, I know exactly what I’ll get at a Starbucks), but it strikes me that today might be a good day to throw down a buck or two at your local coffee provider rather than queuing up at the Starbucks around the corner. Don’t be a sheep! Is it really worth it for a buck’s worth of caffeine… even if it is a wonderful, wonderful drug?

I’ll be at the Coffee Crutch on Yamhill for a cheap java around 10 — or maybe even free; when I asked the owner about the Starbucks thing yesterday, he thought he might try to offer some sort of response, but as of this post, I don’t have confirmation for that. My suggestion was to double all his prices during that two-hour period, which didn’t really strike the chord he was looking for.

oh, and just out of curiousity, if you get a free coffee, do you feel the need to tip? I know somebody who won’t.

I picked up a lovely cup at AJ Java this morning - not only a great local business - they spread the cream cheese on your bagel for you! Talk about service!

I can’t get over what I thought you wrote: Coffee Crotch. That could hurt.
