Metblogs April Meetup: Where should it be?
As you may know, we get together about once a month with some of our readers and whoever else wants to show up and we hang out and have some grub and some drinks; it’s a good time. Our next one will be Tuesday, April 10. We like to start things about 5:30 to get in on happy hour (if there is one) and to keep from taking up the entire night.
However, we’ve been to a few different places around town and we’re looking for someplace new. We need your help! Here’s our criteria:
* Central location: Downtown is ok, but we prefer very close in east side (past locations have been Rose and Raindrop, Acme, and Crush). It MUST be easily accessible by car and bus.
* Inexpensive: It doesn’t have to be dirt cheap, but my ideal would be say, two drinks and a little food and get out for $20 or less-that includes tip.
* Atmosphere: We’re a low-key bunch, I don’t want to be out of place in jeans and a t-shirt.
* Space: We don’t want to be cramped in a corner, and if some of you are joining us we could be between 15 and 20 people so we would like to have the room to expand.
* Sound: We like to talk to each other! It’s the whole reason we get togther; we’d just as soon hear ourselves over whatever background music is going on.
What do you think? Are you someone who owns or works in a place that would be happy to have us? Are you a regular at our soon-to-be dream spot? Just got a hot tip? Plead your case in the comments and we’ll see you soon.

rontoms! Great for groups, close in, nice vibe.
I’m sure there must be a vacant lot where we can all meet with some paper bag’d bottles of Thunderbird.
if the weather is right, i’m with B!X. but I’m thinking kosher, so it needs to be Manishewitz
Did we ever pin down a place? If it is a nice day and people really do want to be outside Sellwood park is lovely and large with quite a nice view.
We’ve been to Acme’s great outdoor patio before, but I’m thinking we may not quite be there, weather-wise.
I have a few suggestions to post later on tonight…
My friend is friends with the owner of the Hawthorne Theater, and he would be willing let us have the balcony bar to ourselves at no charge from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, and let us have everything at happy hour prices. It’s on the corner of 39th and Hawthorne, and has a ton of bus access. If you’ve never been there it’s a lovely dark wood bar with long tables, and a pool table. Their drinks are strong, and the bartender is a nice guy. It’s a lot different when there aren’t any shows going on.
