It May Be Time To Shoot Some Sea Lions: With Real Bullets

USAToday’s John Ritter files a piece today from the Bonneville Dam area.

Entitled “Sea lions show salmon what endangered really is,” John (who I’ve worked with before) devotes large chunks of his piece to describing how resourceful sea lions are, how attempts at mitigation have largely been futile, and how their feasting on salmon has hurt fisheries and even the Native Americans for whom salmon fishing is a way of life.

Although I am no PETA member, it is accounts such as these that are making me reassess my revulsion at hurting sea lions.

If all else fails, I am asking myself if we should consider revising the statutes to allow for lethal action against those sea lions who repeatedly feast on salmon at Bonneville.

What do you think?

Well, realizing of course that the Bonneville Dam is a product of nature’s beauty and has been in existence for millions and millions of years, and has been around waayy longer than those pesky fish, maybe it’s high time to get rid of it.
