Sandcastle Festival in Cannon Beach This Saturday

If I wasn’t hopping a plane on Saturday to fly to that large state south of here, I’d for sure be bound for Cannon Beach and the 43rd Annual Sandcastle Day Festival.

In the shadow of Haystack Rock, a predicted 1,000 contesants from the very young to the quite senior will play with the sand, sculpting figures, creatures and even scenarios. Thousands more will watch.

Get there the night before (if Tolavana Inn isn’t all sold out) or leave early enough to arrive on the scene by 6:30 a.m. That’s when registration begins. The fun stuff, and the judging of said fun stuff, takes place throughout the day.

To register or for more information, go online to www .cannonbeach.org or phone (503) 436-2623, Ext. 3.

Memo to weather goddess: pretty please keep the rain away.
